An American Signal Crayfish trapped in the Ayr catchment by the trust staff

Ayrshire Rivers Trust biologists investigating a report of American Signam Crayfish on a River Ayr tributary have now conformed their presence. This is terrible news for the Ayr system and undoubtedly will require much further investigation. A report from the Trust can be found by following this link to their web blog.

Where in the Ayr system was this discovery made?

That information is not being disclosed at present until the Ayrshire Rivers Trust, SNH and SEPA have established the full extent of their distribution and what biosecurity measures are appropriate. It is essential that anglers realise that they are not allowed to trap these creatures themselves (by Law) and warning signs will be erected in advance of further public announcements.
