Severe Pollution on the River Ayr

By now, there are pictures circulating on social media re a serious pollution incident on the River Ayr at Catrine.
Ayrshire Rivers Trust were quickly made aware of the problem  and were in attendance within 15 minutes of hearing of the developing situation. We can’t state any more than the Board have been kept informed throughout the day and we will continue to update them as necessary. SEPA were also in attendance and on site around the same time as ART.
SEPA are conducting their own investigations.
Anglers are asked not to remove dead fish from the water but instead to send ART a message through this platform or the mobile number provided below so they may attend and gather the evidence. If anyone removes dead salmon or sea trout then they are breaking the Law and ruining the evidence that could otherwise be needed should further action be required. Images are helpful if provided with a time and location.
Please let ART know immediately if you see fish in trouble or dead and let them know exactly where. ART staff will do their best to attend to any reports over the weekend.
Biologists can be contacted on 07894 264 044 out of office hours
