A video guide to identifying farmed salmon

A confirmed farmed salmon escapee that was captured on the Irvine  a few days ago

Ayrshire Rivers Trust has produced a video guide detailing the key indicators that can be used to distinguish farmed from wild salmon. The latest escape of salmon from the Carradle fish farm are beginning to turn up in our rivers so keep an eye out for them. Under the Conservation Regulations introduced in 2016 by Scottish Government, farmed salmon are exempt from the regulations and can and should be killed. It is however the responsibility of angler to make the right decision and that’s why the Trust produced this video to assist.

Should you catch a escaped farmed salmon on the River Ayr system, or on any river, please kill it and provide the Trust with scale samples as demonstrated within the video. Here’s the video link. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WwKwPv1yGBM&t=271s
