Working For The River Ayr And Its Tributaries

Volunteer Water Bailiffs

The River Ayr DSFB is supported by volunteer water bailiffs to protect the River Ayr catchment from the illegal taking or poaching of Salmon and Sea Trout. The bailiffs are trained and have completed the IFM bailiff in Scotland certificate and are empowered under the Salmon and Freshwater Fisheries (Consolidation) (Scotland) Act 2003. Board’s Water Bailiffs are warranted to enforce the legislation and have various statutory powers of entry, search, seizure and arrest. These powers extend to the whole of the River Ayr and its tributaries. The production of his or her warrant by a Bailiff , or any badge or device indicating the appointment, is sufficient authority for the exercise of the powers.

Anyone interested in becoming a voluntary water bailiff on the Ayr system should send a message through this web site to the Clerk to the Board.  Training and equipment is provided. Volunteer bailiffs commit as little or as much time as they wish. Anyone wishing to become a bailiff should email this page or contact the clerk.

If you would like to contact or to request a bailiff’s advice, you can do this by emailing the clerk to the board. A reply may not be instantaneous but will be forthcoming.
