Work at Nethermills is underway to build an Archimedes Screw type hydro scheme. This work will continue all summer and autumn but by November should be complete and the new green energy supply operational.
However, there’s a lot to be done and fish passage must be maintained throughout the construction period although it is accepted there may be an occasional requirement to shut one or both passes for a short time. Contractors have been issued with a CAR license that clearly states what they must and must not do in terms of fish migration.
Currently there is a problem with the lower fish pass that Ayrshire Rivers Trust have advised both SEPA and the agents on a possible solution. ART will be an ever regular presence to ensure that the DSFB interests are met and that fish and fish requimements are prioritised.
